Look and Learn!

“For we are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”

“Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s. Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they will come up by the ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the valley in front of the wilderness of Jeruel. You need not fight in this battle; station yourselves, stand and see the salvation of the Lord on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem.’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out to face them, for the Lord is with you.” (2 Chronicles 20:12, 15-17)

Hezekiah’s prayer to be delivered from an invading army – he prayed for the sake of God’s name. Here I am looking at the prayer of Jehoshaphat when they were being besieged by the ‘sons of Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir.’ (v. 10) Jehoshapat points out how God had given Israel the land but now this enemy was too big to fight.

Very often we go to prayer when, and only when we have no hope. “We are powerless before this great multitude who are coming against us …”

God’s answer to this prayer is spectacular. “Do not fear or be dismayed because of this great multitude …”

There are probably many times when the Lord tells us to stand and watch. Look and Learn! He will deliver. We need to recognize our weakness and leave it in God’s hands. First pray!

O God, hasten to deliver me;

O Lord, hasten to my help! Psalm 70:1-2
